Dave Hill

Dave Hill
Hill uses extreme photoshopping techniques mixed with incredible shows of role play and heart felt acting from all of his subjects to create wondrously complex portraits, most of which creating a feel of a movie type scene.

This image (not by Dave Hill) is a typical, uneventful scene of a cowboy, the image is aged and very much staged looking, lacking contrast and vibrant colours this image is the least bit interesting and in no shape or form an invigorating or exciting scene.

While this image by Dave Hill, portrays a cowboy in the midst of action, embarking on what might seem the starts of an intense gunfight. Hill uses a mix of harsh, stark contrasts and colours, mixed such a clear crisp clarity of image, a scene of such stunningly typical but apt cowboy scenery and a cowboy of such wisdom, power, skill, portrayed by such incredible acting skills.
With all of Hill's images, numerous images are compiled to set the scene and create such a complex theme and nature, each of his images are all made up of a selection of images, this could be the background, the distance and sky beyond the background, the subject and props in the foreground and background and possibly even more than this.
Hill's skills of incredible technical ability, a wondrous imagination and a stunning perfectionist means that any viewer is compelled to investigate and will remain intrigued and enthralled by any image of Hills they see for as long as the can remember.
With such a collaboration of a genius mind and skills any image, no matter what the story, subject material or themes, Hill will turn into a masterpiece of wonder.

Dave uses very unique and specific editing with all of his techniques, whereas most of the techniques are used identically for the last and the next image.
Heres my own example of Dave's techniques

The first image is the original image, an image ive taken, completely untouched and unedited 'fresh' from the camera, as you can see this image will hold very little interest to the viewer as the is a lack of tones and interesting features. This possible could look alot similarly to the beginnings of anyone of Dave's Primary shots. The lower image is the post production of the top image using the stylings of Dave Hill, as you can see clarity, contrasts and sharpness of the image is greatly elevated, the image is crisper, making it alot more interesting, with more depth and detail to be seen and read into by the viewer
The original unedited image opened as a raw format.

As you can see in my annotations the edits that i have made, all very simplistic but making the image drastically more effective. Although seemingly very simple, all of Dave's images are taken to a whole new level in which every aspect of the image is a primary image in itself, where Dave selects from numerous images to put together a collaboration and masterpiece.
